The specific purpose of the Riverside County Sheriff Canine Association is to educate and promote the use of police service dogs within the community, perform canine demonstrations for schools and community groups, and help provide additional training and equipment for police service dogs and their handlers. We mainly assist in the case of our retired police service dogs with medical care, food and furnish death benefits to honor all our police canines’ loyal service.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department K9 Association is a non-profit organization designed to support the canine program and retired dogs. When a Riverside County Sheriff's Department Patrol Service Dog retires, he or she must be retained by a department handler or returned to our training vendor. Each handler has the option to adopt the retiring dog from the department and keep them as a personal dog. The bond between the handler and patrol service dog is very strong, and to date, we have not had one of our P.S.D.'s returned to the vendor. The organization provides for extra equipment not covered by county budget for dogs in service, food for retired dogs, and burial services for dogs that pass away.
We are partnered with the Riverside County Deputy Sheriff Relief Foundation (RCDSRF). The RCDSRF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was established to help the families of law enforcement and public safety officers suffering through critical incidents, such as but not limited to, line of duty deaths, and catastrophic life threatening illnesses, as well as, provides assistance to members of the community who are victims of crimes. The RCDSRF also grants educational scholarship assistance to members and their children of the Riverside Sheriffs’ Association and the community at large. For more information about this foundation please visit their website at www.rcdsrf.org.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Department K9 Team hosts a K9 competition and public safety fair every year, inviting agencies and K9 teams from around California and surrounding states to compete against each other. These competitions and safety fairs help K9 teams to learn new ways to train their P.S.D.s and help the public to understand what our K9 programs do.
All of this is only possible due to the outstanding support of our sponsors. We are very grateful for the relationship we have with our sponsors, and doubly thankful for the training and equipment their support enables us to obtain. From bullet-resistant Kevlar vests for our Patrol Service Dogs, to enhanced lighting equipment, advanced engraved Urns and memorabilia for our fallen brothers, our sponsors really make it possible for our team to continue operating effectively.
